Pea

Peas can be tricky to space, as they attract a lot of pests! When it comes to planting, module transplants are preferable to direct sowing. The issue with direct is that there’s more chance of pests or if it’s late, a chance of them drying up in the heat!

Always raise more plants than you think you will need as you'll likely have a few lost to pests or even weather conditions.

For spacing, use your dibber and run two lines along a bed, about 15cm apart in each line. Create a support structure, posts and string or netting, and be sure to give each plant a lot of space! Peas like each others company and grow best in spring.

Note that one seed makes three or four bushy plants, but always read your seed packet on how it’s going to grow.

Tall and medium peas will definitely need structures whereas dwarf peas may not need them.

Grow exactly the same pea to harvest the shoots, you can cut and they’ll grow back!

Peas love water, keep them watered while they are growing.
